Our block basket

I recently did a reorganization of our toys.  It seems like I do that a lot.  We use shelves and baskets for the majority of our toys and love the system.  I make each basket of toys as categorized as possible: a basket of cars, one of Mega Blocks, one of play food, etc.  Each child's shelf also has a junk/miscellaneous basket for the things that can't be categorized well.

After the Great Reorganization, I noticed that Little Lady had a favorite basket: the block basket.  In our block basket we have: Doug and Melissa nesting blocks, soft blocks with removable shape centers, an old tissue box filled with foam shape blocks I got in the $1 spot at Target, and a set of soft, squeaky blocks with great textures that stack really well and squeak really loudly.

Little Lady loves to pull this basket out and shake, squeak, and knock down the towers I make for her.  But her most favorite thing to do is play with the thing that cost $1 and an empty tissue box.  She pulls the foam blocks out, swishes them on the carpet, tries to eat them, and puts them back in.  Repeat.  Repeat again.  Fun for one dollar and change...
