Mother Nature usually thwarts my plans by raining when I don't want it to rain. The day I was inspired to try this idea, however, my plans were thwarted when the rain stopped five minutes before our planned activity.
We have a three seasons porch with two walls full of windows that makes a good playroom (but not during the frigid winters). One day the idea struck me to have a picnic out there. With all the windows open, it's almost like being outside but without the bugs and with a ceiling fan. The day I had this idea it was raining, which made it an even better idea to me because it could be like a picnic in the rain, but we would stay dry.
As I was getting lunch assembled, the rain stopped and the sun came out. Drat! We had a great picnic, anyway. It was a triple fun time for Mini Me who got to experience a porch picnic, eat a muffin tin lunch, and dine shirtless. Little Lady wore her usual "I can't eat fast enough because I'm always starving" look.
We had so much fun that Mini Me kept asking for more porch picnics. We ate out there three times in five days! Nani came to visit and things got fancier... Mini Me 'planted' his artificial flower garden for her to add ambiance to our picnic.
Also note that Mini Me has to have the same muffin tin lunch, with every thing in the same order for every porch picnic. His motto must be "don't mess with a good thing"!
I was determined to have a picnic in the rain, so we gave it yet another try on a rainy day. It was as awesome as I had anticipated. The rain fell very loudly on the porch roof and the breeze came blowing through the open windows. The thunder rumbled softly, and we laughed and chattered over our lunch, staying dry during our picnic in the rain. A very popular activity with us all, I foresee many more porch picnics in our future.
