Using Microsoft Paint

To this point, I've shied away a bit from teaching Mini Me how to play games on the computer... mostly because I want the laptop to myself at all times.  However, one day I thought he would enjoy experimenting with the Microsoft Paint program to draw some pictures.

It is no surprise that he really loved it.  It didn't take long for him to get the hang of clicking and dragging to draw on the screen.  With my help, he could click and drag to make shapes, also.  Another fun spin to drawing on the computer was that he saw how we could save our picture and email it to Papi and Nani for them to see.

The teacher in me emerged again when I tried making letters and numbers out of dots, then having him trace them.  He does this exact activity with his Leap Frog Scribble and Write, but it's always exciting to try the same skill in a new venue, right?  This time he was able to use his finger on the mouse pad to trace the dots instead of using a stylus.  I love when I can sneak a little learning into playtime.

  1. My kids like playing on the computer too, though we had a child-caused laptop screen death so I haven't been letting them as much lately. But, I'm starting to again. I love educational sites like Starfall.
