I think this activity is the best one we have done in a long time because Mini Me thought of it all by himself. Is this a sign that I have been doing too many activities with him?
We were playing on the porch one afternoon where we still have the foam numbers from doing our tape shapes activity, and where our math counting game hangs. I turned around from diverting Little Lady from cramming a piece of grass in her mouth and I saw this:
Mini Me was matching the foam numbers to the number squares from our math game. He did this twice.
Then, after I commented on how great it was that he was using all the numbers on the porch, he looked at the math game and said, "I like it when we put the colored pasta in there". (see that activity here) I agreed that, yes, it is fun to put the pasta in the math game pockets and then wondered if he wanted to put something else in the pockets to play.
Soon this happened:
By this time, Little Lady had messed up his nice, matching piles on the floor so he really had to think and put all the matching pairs back together. He got very theatrical about it.
And Little Lady became interested in handing him the pieces he needed from the floor.
Spontaneous use of educational toys and the invention of a little math "game"... I'm one proud mama.

That's a great mom moment, to see your kids making their own games. I love that after messing up the piles, Little Lady still helped him out--she's very sweet!
