A Year of ABCs: C with art, literacy, math

Our C pail:
cars
cotton
corn
letter C

C is for cotton clouds.
I cut out some clear contact paper in the shape of a cloud and taped it sticky side up to our train table.  We took a handful of cotton balls and had a great time pulling them apart, sticking them on, and squeezing them.  Little Lady really, really concentrated on her task.  It was fun to see what happened when we stuck the cotton ball to the cloud, and then pulled it back off.
After she tired of this activity, I taped the cloud low on the wall so she could work on it later, and she did!  (And so did Mini Me.... we added a lot of cotton to make a soft, fluffy cloud!)
After they got tired of that, we pulled some cotton off the cloud and blew the pieces along the floor with straws.  We were the wind blowing the clouds along!  This was the most fun for Mini Me as Mommy got a headache doing it, and Little Lady chewed her straw closed.

C is for Little Cloud.
This Eric Carle book is sweet and wonderful.  It went perfectly with our cotton cloud and Little Lady kept trying to touch the pictures in the book because they look textured, as though the clouds would be as cottony soft as ours!

C is for color sort.
I gathered a small array of purple and red objects for this color sort.  I got our purple and red plastic plates out and set them across the room from our pile of colored objects.  Would Little Lady be able to sort the colors and put them on the correct plate?

Why yes, she can!  Mini Me and I helped some times but she did A-okay.  We have more plates like this in different colors so we can adjust the activity a bit, too.
More C activities are coming soon!

  1. Little Lady is doing great with her colors! My kids like to play "cotton hockey" and blow the cotton balls around. I love how you used the contact paper. Another perfect idea for me. :) Happy Valentine's Day!
