Snow alphabet hunt and CVC words!

We've used our sets of foam bath letters in a lot of ways (and oddly enough, the bath is not a place we've taken them to play!).  Last fall we used them for an outdoor alphabet hunt and earlier this winter we did an indoor alphabet hunt

After a fresh snow last week, we took the foam letters out to the snow!

First, I hid all the letters we were using around the yard and in the snow.

I wrote some simple CVC words on our (shoveled) patio in sidewalk chalk and told Mini Me his job was to find the corresponding foam letters.  He was off!  Both he and Little Lady trudged and ran through the snow to hunt for the letters.  They had a great time and it was a great workout doing all that running in snow gear.

When he found the letters, Mini Me brought them back to the patio and put them on the words.  When he found all the right foam letters (minus a couple decoys), darned if he didn't read every single word on the list by himself!  Way to go, Mini Me!

  1. This is so fun! I have seen those letters and always think about getting them, now I know I definitely need to.
Thanks so much for sharing this on outdoor play party.

  2. What a fantastic way to take learning outdoors! We love playing hide and seek, so this would surely be a hit at our house. I like how you wrote out the alphabet in chalk so the kids could keep track of what letters they still needed to find. I am sharing this on my Facebook Page, The Golden Gleam.
