Word family activity
One of Mini Me's favorite letter games to play is using our foam bath letters to make word families. When we start with a sample word and then change a letter to make it a new word, he calls it "word magic".
After reading The Little Red Hen several times, I thought we could play with the "hen" word family.
As you can see, we amassed quite a large set of words. I had some pre-selected letters ready to make pen, ten, and Ben but after those, Mini Me started grabbing random letters and making "words". Even if he didn't make an actual word, he could still sound it out and read it because of his word family knowledge. In this photo, he made zen!
After the hen fun, Mini Me wanted to do the word families of the other characters in the book: dog, cat, and mouse. This book really lent to this activity as all those words do make a good set of word family practice words.
So fun!
