Our back to school party last year was simple, yet meaningful and exciting.
We had a special supper: Mini Me chose Pizza Hut!
Our "Happy Back to School" banner was colorful (and made from craft foam and ribbon... it's reusable).
His back to school gift was a workbook to use at home, and some new books. I took a picture of his gift in a hidden place in the house. I printed that photo as an 8x10 on cardstock, then cut it up into puzzle pieces. Then, I hid the puzzle pieces in a couple rooms of the house. Mini Me (and Little Lady) hunted for the pieces. Once they found them all, Mini Me assembled the puzzle, which was the clue leading him to his back to school gift.
He opened the gift (and Little Lady had one, too, for learning at home), and we enjoyed reading all his new books together. His favorite? The Bernstein Bears Go to School. Love it!
I'm not one for giving gifts throughout the year (gifts for Valentine's Day or St. Patrick's Day or Halloween just aren't our thing) but I think giving a school-related gift on Back to School Eve is going to be a fun tradition for us. It is so important to make school important, and the privilege of starting a new school year full of educational opportunity is certainly worth a celebration!
